WD My Passport Portable

The USB 3.0-based WD My Passport Portable offers top capacity and fast performance in a compact, good-looking, and sturdy package. It also comes with useful software, and it's relatively affordable.ccording to Seagate, a new recording technology is required for 2.5-inch hard drives to offer 2TB of storage space. WD's latest 2TB My Passport drive proves otherwise. Nonetheless, the new drive has likely reached the final frontier in terms of storage space for the current perpendicular recording technology.
Despite the top capacity, the new My Passport is as compact as any other portable drive in the My Passport family, even more compact than some, and is bus-powered, meaning you only need one cable for both data and power. At a street price of around $200 for 2TB, the drive is a great deal.wd my passport portable

WD My Book Thunderbolt Duo

The WD My Book Thunderbolt Duo makes a great alternative to USB- or FireWire-based external drives. The drive is relatively affordable, supports RAID configurations, and is easy to service.Performance
I tested the My Book in two sets of tests. In the first set, it was stacked up against other Thunderbolt drives as well as internal drives, including solid-state drives (SSDs). In the second, it was tested the way any other none-Thunderbolt external storage devices are tested: against the test machine's internal drive. The drive was tested both in RAID 0 and RAID 1 configurations.
The reason for the first set of tests is the fact that Thunderbolt has a ceiling speed of 10Gbps, whereas the fastest internal drive caps at just 6Gbps of the SATA 3 standard. For this reason, it'd make more sense to test a Thunderbolt storage device against the other fastest possible storage solution, which currently is an internal drive, especially SSD, connected directly to a computer's motherboard. I used a 2011 MacBook Pro running OS X Lion, on a SATA 3 (6Gbps) SSD, as the test machine.my book thunderbolt

WD My Book VelociRaptor Duo

The WD My Book VelociRaptor Duo offers stellar performance, includes a Thunderbolt cable, and is easy to service.Design and features
Drive type3.5-inch-based dual-bay external hard drive
Connector optionsThunderbolt
Size (WHD)3.9 x 6.5 x 6.2 inches
Weight5.2 lbs.
Available capacities2TB
Capacity of test unit2TB
OSes supportedMac OS 10.6.8 or later / Windows 7 or later
Software includedWD Drive Utilities
The My Book VelociRaptor Duo shares the same signature design found in other products in WD's My Book line, such as the My Book Thunderbolt Duo, or the My Book Studio Edition II. It looks like a closed book that's standing up. On the front the new drive has a tiny power/status light and on the back, you'll find its power port and two Thunderbolt ports.wd my book velociraptor

WD VelociRaptor WD1000DHTZ

The WD VelociRaptor WD1000DHTZ offers great performance and offers 1TB of storage space. The 1TB WD VelociRaptor WD1000DHTZ is the first hard drive I have reviewed in a long time and that's because it's among only a few on the market that can be considered an alternative to standard solid-state drives (SSDs).
Among other things, the VelociRaptor is different from its peers by offering the spinning speed of 10,000 rpm, which translates into the best performance among consumer-grade hard drives. Compared with SSDs, it's not clearly behind either, in fact outdoing some in certain tests. On top of that it doesn't suffer from limited P/E (program/erase) cycles, which all SSDs do.wd velociraptor

WD My Passport Edge

The WD My Passport Edge is compact, and offers fast USB 3.0 performance as well as useful software.Design and features
At first sight, the My Passport Edge is very different from previous models in the My Passport lineup, such as the My Passport Portable, or the My Passport Studio. The Edge is significantly thinner than more compact. Other than that, however, it's very similar to other WD My Passport drives.
The new Edge comes with a Micro-USB 3.0 port on one side and includes a standard foot-long USB cable. This is the only cable you need; it handles both power and data functions. Using bus power is now a standard feature for most if not all portable USB drives. The Edge supports USB 3.0 and should be used with computers that also support this standard for best performance, but it also works with USB 2.0 ports. I tried the drive with multiple computers, and all of the USB ports were able to power the drive. Similar to other My Passport drives, the Edge has four tiny rubber feet on the bottom to help it stay put on any surface.wd my passport edge

Canon Pixma MX372 Office All-in-One

The Canon Pixma MX372's autodocument feeder enables hands-free scanning, and a new cartridge-loading system up front takes the work out of replacing cartridges.Design and features
The design of the Pixema MX372 is streamlined so that every drawer, tray, and port folds up flush into the self-contained body. The result is a very sleek matte-black exterior with all of the buttons you need to adjust the settings conveniently placed on the front panel. Since the printing is the default function, the rest of the hot keys (copy, fax, scan) are the largest on the panel along with backlit power and start buttons. There's also a blinking alarm for low ink or paper jams.
The MX372 is also the first batch of Canon all-in-one devices to use a new method for loading new ink cartridges. The company calls it "FastFront," and it lets you simply pull down a door behind the paper output tray to expose the inks. The new method makes cartridge replacement easier for people who leave documents in the top-loading autodocument feeder (ADF), as you no longer have to lift up the entire scanner lid in the process.cannon pixma mx372 office-al in one

Brother HL-5450DN

The Brother HL-5450DN is built for busy small offices with Ethernet networking and cloud access through Apple AirPrint, Google Cloud Print, and Brother's iPrint&Scan smartphone app.Design
Consider the HL-5450DN the newer, more robust sibling to the HL-2270DW. Designwise, the HL-5450DN has a larger profile at 14.6 inches wide, 15.1 inches deep, and 9.6 inches tall but keeps the plain black color with two buttons on the top-mounted control to feed and cancel print jobs. As usual, the power switch lives on the right side, and the printer is designed to stay on during the work day, but will enter sleep mode when it doesn't receive data for a set period of time -- you can also customize the sleep time in the driver menu.brother hl-5450dn

Brother MFC 7860DW

Brother makes it easy to network the MFC-7860DW with collaborators, and its modest price tag makes sense for budget-minded shoppers.Design
Strictly based on aesthetics, the Brother MFC-7860DW won't inspire as many oohs and ahhs compared to competing monochrome laser multifunctions like the HP LaserJet Pro M1217nfw, but it's certainly no ugly duckling, either.
The bottom half of the printer is based on the same design as the popular HL-2270DW, but the larger paper path, control panel, and ADF on top pushes its dimensions to 2.7 inches wide and 19.4 inches tall. It weighs 25.6 pounds, but textured cutouts on both sides and the bottom of the chassis make it easier to move around the office.brother mfc 7860dw

Canon Pixma MG2220 w/PP-201

The Pixma MG2220 is one of the least expensive products in Canon's lineup, but it hits hard with above-average output speed and a useful photo-editing software suite.Design
Canon keeps the hardware costs down by not giving the Pixma MG2220 an elaborate LCD screen, instead opting for a simple two-line readout that displays basic information like the number of duplicates you want from the copier. The rest of the control panel is equally svelte and includes single-function buttons for selecting media sizes, fit-to-page toggle, and black and color scanning options. One thing to note about the cockpit is that you need to look directly down onto it, so you'll need to situate it lower than eye level for best visibility and access. Still, in a worst-case scenario, you can always access all of the same shortcut features through the virtual options on the driver.cannon pixma pp-201

Canon Pixma MG3220

The Canon Pixma MG3220 has Apple AirPlay wireless compatibility that eliminates installation speed bumps, and Canon's versatile imaging software to help you edit and organize your snapshot photos before printing.Design
Setting up the Canon Pixma MG3220 is simple no matter how you choose to connect it to a computer, and the installation disc offers onscreen instructions that guide you through three connectivity options using either 802.11 b/g/n wireless, an Ethernet cable, or a simple USB cord.cannon pixma mg3220

Canon updates prosumer photo printer line

It's been a long time since Canon revved its dedicated photo-printing products, the Pro9000 Mark II and Pro9500 Mark II. Now updated to follow the same design as the higher-end Pixma Pro-1 released almost a year ago, the 13 x 19 Pro-10 and Pro-100 add Wi-Fi/AirPrint and Ethernet connectivity and a new plug-in for Lightroom and Photoshop to help with page layout.
The $699 Pro-10 uses the Lucia pigment inks, supplemented with the same Chroma Optimizer as the Pro-1 to minimize gloss differential and bronzing of black inks when printing on glossy stock. Canon reformulated the yellow ink and claims increased coverage in the red/magenta/yellow area of its color gamut.cannon prosumer photo printer

HP Color LaserJet CM1017

Excellent print quality; built-in media card slots; good range of photo-printing options; network ready; 24/7 phone support.Design

The HP Color LaserJet CM1017 MFP is a large printer better suited for an office than for a home. It sits 17.3 inches wide, 20 inches deep, and 21.3 inches tall, and it weighs nearly 50 pounds. The top-mounted flatbed scanner and control panel sit atop the body like a flat hat. The flatbed scanner can hold up to A4-size originals, but the unit lacks an automatic document feeder, so it can't scan legal-sized documents.
Below the scanner unit is the output tray, which juts out from the front of the printer. The input tray pulls out from the bottom of the printer's front and can hold up to 250 sheets of plain paper. You can adjust the paper tray to hold legal-size sheets. The front panel of the paper tray houses a single-sheet manual feed slot for one-off prints. Adjustable paper guides let you smoothly feed anything from envelopes to full sheets of paper. If you need increased paper capacity, you can purchase a second 250-sheet tray.hp color laserjt cm1017

HP LaserJet P3005n

The HP LaserJet P3005 is a mono laser printer that's all business: it's a quick printer that offers great print quality. With five configurations from which to choose (ranging from $550 to $1,000), you can find the right one for your home office or multi-user office, but the Lexmark E350 series boasts faster prints and is, overall, a better value. TheLexmark E352dn includes a duplexer and is network ready, and at $450, is $100 cheaper than the basic HP P3005, which includes neither feature (the comparably featured HP P3005dn costs $900). To its credit, the HP P3005 gives you better paper handling out of the box and cheaper prints. For the value and faster prints, we prefer the Lexmark E352dn, but the HP LaserJet P3005 is still an excellent, single-purpose office printer.
Design
The HP LaserJet P3005 is boxy, but its bland gray-and-putty color scheme will blend into any standard office environment. It stands 16.7 inches wide, 16.1 inches deep, and 12.2 inches tall, and weighs nearly 36 pounds. (The P3005x model is taller and heavier due to the extra paper tray.) It's reasonably small for a mono laser printer, but may be on the large side for a small home office.hp laserjetp3005n

HP Officejet Pro L7780

The HP Officejet Pro L7680 All-in-One printer has lots of great, office-oriented features such as Digital Filing; a built-in ADF, a duplexer, and media card slots; excellent print quality; fast-enough print speeds for small workgroups; low print costs.Design
The HP Officejet Pro L7680 All-in-One, a large printer clad mostly in black, stands out from the putty- and white-colored home printers from HP. This model stands 20.9 inches wide, 25.4 inches deep, and 14 inches tall, and it weighs about 35 pounds. Dimensions vary a bit among the different models because of features such as extra paper trays. The top-mounted, 50-page automatic document feeder (ADF) lets you copy, scan, or fax multipage documents without having to babysit the job. The ADF sits on the scanner lid, which opens to reveal a legal-size flatbed scanner. Built-in media card readers and a PictBridge-enabled USB port allow for PC-free printing from media cards, USB storage devices, or PictBridge-enabled cameras.hp laserjet pro l7780

HP LaserJet 1020

Very inexpensive; good text quality; print costs are low; manual feed tray for one-off prints. The HP LaserJet 1020 is an inexpensive monochrome laser printer for home users with light printing needs. Its print speeds and quality aren't stellar, but at $180, it's hard to fault it too much. For that price, you get a very basic and compact printer that does a serviceable job. If you can spare an additional $20, however, the Lexmark E250d comes with a duplexer, while the Samsung ML-2571N is network-ready. Both also offer better print quality.

The compact LaserJet 1020 measures just 14.6 inches wide, 9.5 inches deep, and 8.2 inches tall, and weighs a light 11 pounds. The front panel folds open to reveal a 150-sheet input tray and a single-sheet manual input tray, both of which have adjustable paper guides. The output tray resides on the top of the printer and includes a fold-out paper support.
It comes with a 234MHz processor and just 2MB of onboard memory, far short of the 32MB offered by the Samsung ML-2571N. It has just a USB connection, so it's better for single users than a multiuser environment.hp laserjet 1020

HP Deskjet 460wbt Mobile

Outstanding text prints; Wi-Fi printing is available as an option; USB port for connecting storage drives or PictBridge devices; Wi-Fi version lets you create up to three profiles for places you print at often; generous support package. The HP Deskjet 460c is a portable color inkjet aimed squarely at traveling business people who need to be able to print documents on the go, whether it's in a hotel room or on an airplane. Its speeds are on par with the competition's, though its performance isn't as consistent as that of the similar Canon Pixma iP90v. The Deskjet 460c produces excellent text prints, but its graphics and photo prints leave a lot to be desired, which isn't too big a deal when you consider the printer's intended use. For text output on the go, the $250 HP Deskjet 460 makes a worthy travel companion.hp deskjet 460wbt

Oki B2520

Low price; mailbox option is great for a multiuser environment; front-mounted USB port lets you print from or scan/fax to a USB thumbdrive; good color scan quality; manual feed slot; full QWERTY keyboard lets you input e-mail addresses easily.Design

The Oki B2520 MFP is diminutive for a multifunction laser printer. It sits 17.6 inches wide, 15.2 inches deep, and 16.2 inches tall, and weighs 26 pounds. The scanner lid is topped by a 50-page automatic document feeder (ADF) that allows you to copy and scan legal-sized documents (the flatbed scanner can only accommodate pages up to A4 in size). A single USB port adorns the front panel of the printer for connecting USB thumbdrives.
The paper cassette holds up to 250 sheets of paper and can be configured to hold a variety of paper sizes up to legal. Above the cassette is a single-sheet manual feed slot with adjustable paper guides. The output well includes a fold-out paper stop that catches long sheets. This printer lacks a rear-output slot for straight pass-through printing.oki b2520

Epson PictureMate Dash PM260

Tons of features; fast with 4x6 prints; USB port can be used to connect PictBridge devices, as well as flash drives, hard drives, and even USB CD/DVD burners for printing or transferring images; reasonable per-print costs; large LCD with lots of viewing options; easy to use.Design

The Epson PictureMate Dash (PM260) looks a lot like its predecessors, the PictureMates Pal,Snap, and Flash. It stands 13.6 inches wide, 9.1 inches deep, and 8.7 inches tall, and weighs just 5.3 pounds. Although it has traded the all-silver look for a white-and-dark-gray exterior, it retains the high-tech picnic basket look with a pivoting handle and lid. The lid opens to reveal the control panel, and also serves as the input support for photo paper. A panel on the front opens to catch prints.
One big improvement over last year's PictureMate lineup is the huge 3.6-inch LCD that flips up. This is larger than the LCD on the Flash, which was last year's high-end model. The onboard control panel consists of a menu button; four direction keys and an OK button for navigating the menus; a zoom button; a thumbnail display key; and stop and start buttons. Two memory card slots are mounted on the front and accept most major types, though some will require an adapter (not included). The printer also offers a USB port for connecting PictBridge devices, storage drives, and an optional Bluetooth adapter, but it's located in the back. Because the printer is small, it's not difficult to turn it around to access the USB port, but it would be more convenient to have it on the front of the printer.epson picmate dash

HP LaserJet M2727nf

Fast print speeds; great print quality; control panel is well-organized and easy to use; feature set is appropriate for small offices.Design

The design of the LaserJet M2727 series multifunction is all business. The putty-and-gray body of the M2727nf stands 19.7 inches wide, 16 inches deep, and 18 inches tall, and weighs almost 38 pounds (the M2727nfs is taller and heavier due to an extra paper tray). The flatbed scanner lid is topped by a 50-page automatic document feeder.
The control panel is divided by task. In the center are a backlit, two-line text LCD; menu navigation buttons; and an alphanumeric keypad. The fax area includes one-touch dial buttons, redial, phone book, volume, and resolution buttons. The copy area includes buttons for reducing/enlarging, making copies lighter or darker, changing paper size, and changing the number of copies, as well as buttons for turning on two-sided copies, collating, and a tray-select button. The scan area contains just a Scan To button. All three task areas have their own dedicated start buttons as well.hp laserjet m2727nf

Epson Stylus Photo R1900

Advances in printer technology don't come along very frequently and tend to be less than earth-shattering. Almost three years after Epson introduced the widely popular Stylus Photo R1800, the company has released the Stylus Photo R1900, which brings along with it a new version of the company's pigment-based UltraChrome Hi-Gloss ink set called UltraChrome Hi-Gloss2. The new inks include an orange cartridge, instead of the blue cartridge used with the R1800, which allows for slightly better skin tones.
The company has also revamped the way it translates colors from the images shot by your digital camera into those that the printer can reproduce. Epson is calling this new system Radiance Technology, but while Epson also claims some grain reduction and smoother color transitions with the system, at its heart it's mostly a new set of look-up tables that the company says can better maximize the number of colors available with this printer. Since we're dealing with a new ink set, it's hard to compare the difference that Radiance Technology makes, but I can say that the Stylus Photo R1900 has a very wide color gamut and did a great job of printing colors that can often give inkjets trouble, such as deep purples and some shades of blue. Plus, as you might expect, the orange ink can help with oranges and some darker shades of yellow. epson stylus photo r1900

HP Officejet H470wf Mobile Printer

The casing of the Officejet H470wbt is almost identical to the 460c, but this time HP went with a matte black finish instead of silver. Aesthetically, we really enjoy the design of the H470wbt. The corners are contoured and the flaps all neatly fold into the body. When everything is closed, it looks very rugged--if Batman needed a mobile printer, his search would end here.
The printer has most of the necessary ports, like PictBridge USB, standard USB, and a SD/miniSD/MMC slot, but lacks the older model's Compact Flash port. This isn't a big issue since most digital point-and-shoot cameras use SD or Memory Stick media, but users with DSLRs that use CF cards should look toward a more photo-specific traveler like the Hhp officejet h470wf mobile printer

HP Photosmart A636

Improved photo quality prints; incredibly easy desktop software installation; tons of editing features; large touch screen; small footprint.
Design and features
The A636 has the same small print kiosk form of its predecessor. The exterior is still matte black with a glossy output tray that folds down to reveal four media card slots (CompactFlash, Memory Stick, SD/MMC, xD) and a PictBridge USB port. The only aesthetic difference between the A626 and the A636 is the faceplate, which is now light gray instead of blue.
Standing at 5.2 inches tall, 9.9 inches wide, and 4.6 inches deep, the printer takes up very little real estate on a table, and all the trays including the screen, conveniently fold up into the body for clean storage. Conversely, popping open the output tray also releases the rear paper-input door and the 4.8-inch color touch screen, our favorite feature on the printer. Other printers like the Canon Selphy dye-sublimation printer use hard navigation buttons surrounding the display to access features, but the A636's touch screen and stylus work much better for direct photo editing. hp photosmart a636
